About Johanna Hyland
Welcome! As the founder of Healing Heart, I am passionate about supporting people in need. Specialty Areas
I am passionate about supporting women through their journey to become mothers. This journey to motherhood includes pre-pregnancy, pregnancy and/or adoption, and the post-partum period. I recognize that the path to motherhood can be very painful for some women. This is a time when women often need additional support, help setting boundaries, and developing coping skills to deal with stressors. I enjoy supporting women during this challenging time and helping them find ways to celebrate life even when the path ahead seems scary and uncertain.
Another specialty area of mine includes working with children and families of children with disabilities. Prior to becoming a clinical social worker, I served as a Teach for America special education teacher in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. While I enjoyed being a special education teacher, what drew me to a career in Social Work was my desire to give each child more personalized attention. I choose to define all people by their abilities rather than their disabilities. One of the reasons I love working with individuals who have disabilities is because it is so rewarding to watch a person accomplish something they never believed possible. I am constantly amazed by the inner strength that so many individuals possess.
Personal Philosophy
My love for animals, nature, hiking, and yoga is also reflected in my practice at Healing Heart. Charley, my dog, is often present to welcome people with a friendly tail wag and is used therapeutically with specific clients.
Perhaps the most important thing you should know is that I genuinely care about people and take pride in my work and profession. Please contact me to learn more. I look forward to talking with you about how Healing Heart can support you and your needs.
